Hymn · Grace

Grace! 'Tis a Charming Sound

Words by Philip Doddridge, 17556 verses

Organ, every verse, the words light up as you sing. Tune: Lisbon.

Grace! ’tis a charming sound,Harmonious to the ear;Heav’n with the echo shall resound,And all the earth shall hear.

Grace first contrived the wayTo save rebellious man;And all the steps that grace displayWhich drew the wondrous plan.

Grace first inscribed my nameIn God’s eternal book;’Twas grace that gave me to the Lamb,Who all my sorrows took.

Grace led my roving feetTo tread the heavenly road; And new supplies each hour I meetWhile pressing on to God.

Grace taught my soul to prayAnd made my eyes o’erflow;’Twas grace that kept me to this dayAnd will not let me go.

Grace all the work shall crownThrough everlasting days;It lays in heaven the topmost stoneAnd well deserves the praise.
