Morning prayer · 31 December

Until our work is done

A long shadow cast by a standing lamp slowly stretches across a floor toward evening, and at its very tip a small open door glows with warm light, suggesting a day's work ending into rest.

Lord, hold us up all day long, until the shadows lengthen and the evening comes, and the busy world is quiet, and the fever of life is over, and our work is done. Then, in your mercy, give us a safe place to stay, a holy rest, and peace at the last. Amen.

Surely goodness and mercy will follow me all the days of my life, and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.

Psalm 23:6 (BSB)
