Morning prayer · 9 December

Joy in the morning

A small night-light moth asleep with folded wings on a windowsill, while outside the window the sun breaks and a bright sunflower turns its face up toward the light.

Lord, sorrow may last for a night, but joy comes in the morning. You’ve kept me safe this night from the powers of darkness, from sad accidents and harm, and from the anger I deserve every day. You’ve brought my soul up from the depths and kept my life from the pit. You’ve shown me wonderful kindness and blessed me forever. Your glory reaches the heavens, and your faithfulness the clouds. My God, I will thank you forever. Hallelujah! Amen.

For His anger is fleeting, but His favor lasts a lifetime. Weeping may stay the night, but joy comes in the morning.
