Morning prayer · 30 January

Shadow into morning

A single lamp or candle burning low at the edge of night, with a line of footprints leading from its light out into the first streak of dawn.

God, eternal King, you separate the day from the darkness and turn the shadow of death into morning. Drive every wrong desire far away from us. Turn our hearts to keeping your law, and guide our feet onto the path of peace. Then, having done what you want gladly while it’s day, when night comes we’ll be happy to give you thanks. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

He who made the Pleiades and Orion, who turns darkness into dawn and darkens day into night, who summons the waters of the sea and pours them over the face of the earth—the LORD is His name—
