Out of weakness, strength

A small soldier's shield leaning against a wall overnight, dented but mended with simple stitched patches, standing ready again at dawn.

Lord, you were tempted in every way, just as we are. Have mercy on our weakness. Out of weakness, give us strength. Give us a holy awe of you, so that you’re the only one we fear. Hold us up when we’re tempted. Make us brave when we’re in danger. Help us do your work with good courage, and to stay your faithful soldiers and servants to the end of our lives. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses, but we have one who was tempted in every way that we are, yet was without sin.
