Light, life and peace

A small oil lamp burns steadily on a windowsill at the exact seam of night and day, its flame and the breaking dawn light merging into one glow across the sill.

Almighty God, you give light that makes us glad in the dark, life that brings joy in the gloom, and peace that brings us quiet in the middle of conflict. Let us live today in that light, life and peace, so that we win over what presses us down, over our bodies’ weakness that so often holds us back, and over death, which seems for a moment to win. Filled inside with peace and light and life, may we walk through all our days doing our work as our Father’s business, glad of it because it’s your will, knowing that whatever you give, you give in love. And give us the greatest and last blessing: to be with you, and like you, forever. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Once again, Jesus spoke to the people and said, “I am the light of the world. Whoever follows Me will never walk in the darkness, but will have the light of life.”
