Morning prayer · 13 August

Fix my mind on you

A noisy room full of overlapping chatter-bubbles drawn tiny and busy in one corner, while a single empty chair sits turned away from them all, facing a plain open window instead.

Good Lord, give me your grace to count the world as nothing, to fix my mind firmly on you, and not to hang on what people say about me. Help me be content to be alone with you, and not to crave the world’s company. Little by little, help me clear my mind of all its busy concerns, so I stop longing to hear about worldly things and their empty fancies lose their appeal. Make me glad to think about you, to call out to you for help like someone in need, to lean on your comfort, and to work hard at loving you. Amen.

More than that, I count all things as loss compared to the surpassing excellence of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord, for whom I have lost all things. I consider them rubbish, that I may gain Christ
