Morning prayer · 20 August

Pure light of knowing you

A pair of curtains drawn open at a small window, sunlight pouring in and landing in a bright square on the floor of an otherwise dim room, showing the mind's eyes opened to understand.

Loving Master, shine into our hearts with the pure light of knowing you. Open the eyes of our minds to understand the good news you taught, and fill us with deep respect for your blessed commands. Then, trampling down every selfish craving of the body, we can live a life led by your Spirit, thinking and doing everything as it pleases you. You make us holy and you give us light, and we give glory to you, Father, Son and Holy Spirit, now and forever. Amen.

For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” made His light shine in our hearts to give us the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.
