Morning prayer · 16 February

The house of my soul

A small crooked house with its roof lifted off and sunlight pouring in, a hand gently reaching down to set a new beam in place.

Lord, if only I could rest in you! If only you’d come and fill my heart, so I’d forget my troubles and hold on to you, my only good. What are you to me? In your kindness, help me say it. Lord, my heart is open before you. Open its ears, and say to my soul, “I am your salvation.” Let me run after that voice and take hold of you. Don’t hide your face from me. The house of my soul is too small for you; make it bigger, so you can come in. It’s falling down; repair it. There are things in it that must hurt your eyes; I know it. Who will clean it but you? Lord, clean me from my hidden faults, and keep me, your servant, from the enemy’s power. Amen.

Behold, I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in and dine with him, and he with Me.
