Morning prayer · 25 February
Many waters

Lord, you are patience and pity, sweetness and love; that’s why we aren’t destroyed. You’ve raised your mercy above everything, and made our rescue, not our punishment, your glory. Where sin grew, grace grew all the more. When we’d sinned past any help in heaven or earth, you said, “Here I am. I’m coming.” The Lord of life, who couldn’t die by himself, found a way to do it. He took a body; he wept; he died. He died for his enemies, even for those who mock him still. Blessed Jesus, many waters couldn’t put out your love, and no pit could swallow it. Your blood ran through darkness, grave and hell, yet you rose in triumph and made us victorious too. We praise and bless you forever! Amen.
But God proves His love for us in this: While we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
