Morning prayer · 8 February

Looking up to you

A small child's hand reaching up to hold one finger of a much larger open hand, drawn simply to evoke trust and looking up.

God, today I really want to please you. I want to do what you want in each thing you give me to do. I want to bear each thing you allow that goes against my wishes, gently, humbly and patiently, as your gift to loosen my self-will and make your will completely mine. Whatever I do, help me do it simply as your child. All through the day, let me be like a child with a loving father, always looking up to you. May I love you for all your love. And may I thank you, if not in words then in my heart, for every gift and comfort of your love, day by day. Amen.

Surely I have stilled and quieted my soul; like a weaned child with his mother, like a weaned child is my soul within me.

Psalm 131:2 (BSB)
