Morning prayer · 25 January
I’m no hero

Lord, I’m no hero. I’ve been careless and cowardly, sometimes close to rebelling. I deserve punishment; I admit it. But I’ve never been a traitor. I’ve never been a deserter. I’ve tried to fight on your side in your battle against evil. I’ve tried to do the duty closest to me, and to leave whatever you trusted me with a little better than I found it. I haven’t been good, but at least I’ve tried to be good. Take the wanting for the doing, good Lord. Don’t strike my unworthy name off the roll call of your great, victorious army, the company of all your faithful people. Let my name be written in the Book of Life too, even if it’s lowest and last on the list. Amen.
For He knows our frame; He is mindful that we are dust.
