Morning prayer · 6 January

A ray of your light

A single ray of sunlight breaking through clouds to water a small wilted plant on a windowsill, bringing it back to life.

Come, Holy Spirit, and bring a ray of your light from heaven. Come, father of the poor, giver of gifts, light of the world. You’re the kind Comforter, the dear guest of the soul and its sweetest refreshment: our rest when we work, our shade in the heat, our comfort in sorrow. Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your people. Without you there’s nothing in us but weakness and guilt. Clean what is dirty. Water what is dry. Heal what is hurt. Bend what is stubborn. Warm what is cold. Guide what is wandering. We put our trust in you: give us your goodness, save us in the end, and give us joy that never ends. Lord, hear our prayer. Amen.

For I will pour water on the thirsty land, and currents on the dry ground. I will pour out My Spirit on your descendants, and My blessing on your offspring.
