Morning prayer · 20 June

Lilies of a day

A single lily growing in a meadow, drawn larger than the tiny royal crown lying forgotten in the grass beside it, showing simple beauty that outshines glory.

Lord, even Solomon, in all his glorious clothes, didn’t put on his glory without worry. Clothe us like your lilies that last a day, the lilies you call beautiful: lilies you made, lilies that share in your love, filling the earth and air with their free fragrance. You gather lilies; gather us, and wear us. Amen.

And why do you worry about clothes? Consider how the lilies of the field grow: They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his glory was adorned like one of these.
