Morning prayer · 16 November

Make my bed in sickness

A simple bed being freshly made with plump pillows and smoothed blankets by a pair of unseen gentle hands, warm light falling across it as if prepared in advance for whoever will need rest.

Gracious God, bless me in my work, for whatever purposes you choose for me or give me to do. Comfort me in all my sadness. Make my bed when I’m sick. Give me patience in my sorrows, confidence in you, and grace to call on you whenever I’m tempted. Be my guide in all I do and my protector in every danger. Give me a healthy body and a clear mind, and a spirit that is holy and fair, loving and humble, devoted to you and content. Don’t let my life be miserable, or my name stained by sin and shame, or my position raised so high it becomes a dangerous temptation. But let my life be blessed, useful to the people around me, and pleasing to you. Amen.

The LORD will fulfill His purpose for me. O LORD, Your loving devotion endures forever—do not abandon the works of Your hands.
