Morning prayer · 14 September

My summer wind

A small thermometer or weathervane on a windowsill shows a sudden frost creeping up the glass, but a warm golden south wind is just visible blowing in from the corner of the frame, melting the frost's edge.

My God, be the one who controls the weather of my spirit. I don’t feel gloomy when the day is dull, so don’t let me be gloomy when earthly mists roll across the endless sky of my soul. And if a sudden frost in my mind runs through the summer of my heart, leaving it cold, tired and joyless, wasting the air and sun, you are my south, my summer wind, my all, my one. Amen.

Why are you downcast, O my soul? Why the unease within me? Put your hope in God, for I will yet praise Him for the salvation of His presence.
