Morning prayer · 2 December

Where day never ends

A single door standing open at the end of a long dim hallway, soft steady light pouring through it with no shadow inside — the day that never ends drawn as one unending bright room beyond the threshold.

Sweet Jesus, Word of the Father, the shining light of his glory, whom angels love to look at: teach me to do your will. Then, led by your good Spirit, may I come to that happy city where the day never ends. There, safety is certain and forever is secure. There is peace without end, happiness full of peace, sweetness full of happiness, and delight full of sweetness. There is light without darkness, joy without grief, desire with no price to pay, love without sadness, plenty without ever tiring of it, safety without fear, health without sickness, and life without death. There you live and reign, God, with the Father and the Holy Spirit, forever. Amen.

There will be no more night in the city, and they will have no need for the light of a lamp or of the sun. For the Lord God will shine on them, and they will reign forever and ever.
