Morning prayer · 22 December
Christ our light

Christ our Light, even in the dark, when we look up, we can make you out and fix our eyes on you. Christ, loveliest Light that ever shone, Light from Light, the spring of every light there is, give us clear sight to see your light, even when other lights slip away from us, or fade into forgetting, or shine in places too high for us. When we look at you, we look straight at what we long for. We look straight at Love itself, and looking, we can honestly ask, “What do we still lack?” Our warmth doesn’t depend on earthly fires; our riches aren’t earthly things to lose or gain. The earth may shake, but our treasure is stored up in heaven. Amen.
The true Light, who gives light to everyone, was coming into the world.
