Morning prayer · 24 December

Born for us

A tall, proud thistle in a garden bed bows its spiky head low to the ground, where a small plain seed is being gently tucked into the soil beneath it by an unseen hand.

Lord Jesus Christ, you humbled yourself to become human and to be born into the world to save us. Teach us the grace of humility. Pull up every root of pride and arrogance in our hearts. Shape us to be like you in your holiness in this world, so that in the world to come we will be made like you. For your own name’s sake, and because of your mercy. Amen.

but emptied Himself, taking the form of a servant, being made in human likeness.
