Until the storm passes

A small bird has folded itself down flat on a tree branch, head tucked low, riding out a sweeping rain shown only as a few slanted lines, waiting for stillness, with the words “until the storm has passed” lettered by hand.

Lord, without you I can do nothing; with you I can do everything. Help me by your kindness, so I don’t fall. Help me by your strength to push back hard against the very first beginnings of wrong, before it takes hold of me. Help me throw myself straight down at your feet and lie still there until the storm has passed. And if I lose sight of you, bring me back to you quickly, and help me love you more, because your mercy is so tender. Amen.

I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength.
