Light for the night

A single firefly glowing bright in a dark garden at night, its small light drawn large enough to outshine the whole dark page around it.

Eternal and most kind God, at creation you let darkness come before light. Yet when you made light, you made so much of it that it lit not only the day but the night too. Though you’ve let some dimness, some clouds of sadness and loneliness, fall on my soul, I humbly thank and praise your holy name that you’ve given me the light of your Spirit. The prince of darkness can’t overcome it, or stop it lighting up our darkest nights and our saddest thoughts. Amen.

The Light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it.
