Shine through me

A single small lantern standing on a windowsill, its flame drawn as a tiny borrowed sun, casting light out across the sill onto a row of smaller unlit lanterns that are just beginning to catch its glow.

Jesus, stay with me, and then I’ll begin to shine as you shine, so that I’m a light to others. The light, Jesus, will all come from you. None of it will be mine. It will be you shining through me on others. Let me praise you in the way you love best, by shining on everyone around me. Give them light as well as me; light them with me and through me. Teach me to show your praise, your truth and your will. Help me preach you without preaching, not by words but by my example, by the quiet pull of what I do, by being visibly like your people, and by the clear fullness of the love my heart has for you. Amen.

In the same way, let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
