Morning prayer · 20 March

Opening our lips

A pair of curtains being drawn open by an unseen hand to let the first morning light fall on a plain windowsill, showing lips and life being opened for prayer.

God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, you’ve raised us from our beds and gathered us at this hour of prayer. Bless us as we open our lips, accept our thanks as best we can give them, and teach us your ways. We don’t know how to pray as we should unless you guide us, Lord, by your Holy Spirit. So we ask you: forgive whatever wrongs we’ve done up to this moment, in word or action or thought, on purpose or without meaning to. Lord, if you kept a record of every wrong, who could stand? But with you there is forgiveness and rescue. You alone are holy, our mighty helper and the protector of our life, and our song will always be about you. Amen.

But with You there is forgiveness, so that You may be feared.
