Morning prayer · 27 March

Out of the night

A rooster perched on a windowsill crowing as the very first ray of sunlight breaks the dark horizon behind it.

God, out of the night our spirit wakes up to you, because your teaching is a light to us. Teach us, God, what is right, and your commands and your laws. Light up the eyes of our mind, so we don’t fall asleep in our sins and die. Drive all darkness out of our hearts. Let Christ rise on us like the sun, bringing what is right. Seal us with your Holy Spirit and guard our lives from all shame. Guide our steps onto the path of peace. Let us see the dawn and the day with joy, so we can send our prayers up to you again tonight. Amen.

My soul longs for You in the night; indeed, my spirit seeks You at dawn. For when Your judgments come upon the earth, the people of the world learn righteousness.
