Lamps that never go out

A row of small oil lamps on a windowsill at night, one by one catching flame from the single lamp at the end, none of them dimming as they pass the light along.

Hear us, never-failing Light, Lord our God, our only Light, the fountain of light. You are the light of your angels and of every rank of heavenly power, and of every being that can think. You made the light of your saints. Let our souls be your lamps, lit and made bright by you. Let them shine and burn with the truth, and never go out into darkness and ashes. Let us be your house, shining from you and shining in you. Let us shine and never fail. Let us always worship you. Let us be lit in you and never go out. Filled with the brightness of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, let us shine from within. Clear away the gloom of our sins, and let the light of lasting faith stay inside us. Amen.

so that you may be blameless and pure, children of God without fault in a crooked and perverse generation, in which you shine as lights in the world
