Morning prayer · 11 November

The rough sea within

A small storm-tossed paper boat on choppy water, with one calm smooth circle of still water opening up right beneath it where the waves part, with the words “be still and at peace” lettered by hand.

Lord, every heart is open to you. You can steer the boat of my soul far better than I can. Rise, Lord, and tell the stormy wind and the rough sea of my heart to be still and at peace in you, so I can look up to you undisturbed and stay close to you. Don’t let wandering thoughts toss me here and there; help me forget everything else, and see and hear you. Make my spirit new. Light your light in me, so it shines within me and my heart burns with love and worship for you. Let your Holy Spirit live in me always. Make me your temple, and fill me with your love and light and life, with heavenly thoughts, with comfort and strength, with joy and peace. Amen.

You rule the raging sea; when its waves mount up, You still them.
