Light out of darkness

A lighthouse beams its light outward over gentle waves toward tiny distant boats scattered on sea, land, and shore, all drawn in one small frame catching the same beam.

Lord God, holy beyond all searching, you commanded light to shine out of darkness. You’ve refreshed us with sleep in the night and raised us up to praise your goodness and to pray to you, moved by your own tender love. Accept us now as we bow before you in worship and thank you as well as we’re able. Give us everything we ask that leads to our salvation. Make us children of the light and of the day, and heirs of your everlasting good things. Lord, in your great generosity, remember all our brothers and sisters on land, on the sea and in every place, who need your loving kindness and your help, and give them all your great mercy. Amen.

For you are all sons of the light and sons of the day; we do not belong to the night or to the darkness.
