Morning prayer · 29 November

Nearer, clearer, dearer

A small child reaches both arms straight up toward a much larger, gentle sky-father figure drawn only as warm sunlight pouring down, since no earthly father's love compares to this nearness.

Lord Jesus, teach us to live so close to the Father that his love is nearer, clearer and dearer to us than the love of any earthly father. Let our certainty that he hears our prayers be as much greater than our trust in an earthly parent as the heavens are higher than the earth. Show us that it’s only our distance from the Father, so unlike a child’s, that gets in the way of answered prayer, and lead us into the true life of God’s children. Make us like children, as you were on earth. And let every prayer be breathed in faith that the Father’s love, and how ready he is to give what we ask, is far beyond anything we can imagine. Amen.

So if you who are evil know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father in heaven give good things to those who ask Him!
