Morning prayer · 30 November

Nothing above your love

A single empty glass lantern sits on a windowsill at dawn, its wick unlit, while seven small distinct flames hover in the air just outside the glass waiting to be gathered in and lit, showing the many gifts of the Spirit sought and drawn into one humble vessel.

Lord, give me pure lips, a clean and innocent heart, and right actions. Give me humility, patience, self-control, purity, good sense, fairness, courage and moderation. Give me the Spirit of wisdom and understanding, of good advice and strength, of knowledge and devotion, and of holy awe of you. Help me always to seek your face with all my heart, soul and mind. When I’m with you, give me a humble heart that is sorry for its sins, and let me put nothing above your love. Highest, eternal Wisdom, beyond all words, drive the darkness of blindness and ignorance away from me. Highest, eternal Strength, rescue me. Highest, eternal Courage, help me. Highest Light, beyond understanding, shine on me. Highest, endless Mercy, have mercy on me. Amen.

My heart said, “Seek His face.” Your face, O LORD, I will seek.
