Morning prayer · 11 October

Till the day breaks

A dim room where a single candle on a windowsill is slowly outshone by the first grey light of dawn creeping through the glass, the candle flame looking small and pale next to the growing daylight.

Eternal Light, next to you all darkness is light, and every other light is only darkness! Please send out your light and your truth to lead us. Make our souls clean from every impure thought, so that your beautiful, holy image is made new in us again. As we look at how perfect and glorious you are, may we feel ourselves becoming more like you each day, until at last we see you fully and are happy with you forever. Until that blessed day breaks and the shadows run away, let your Spirit be with us always. May we feel your grace guiding and holding up our steps, so that all we do for the rest of our lives brings glory to your name. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

Send out Your light and Your truth; let them lead me. Let them bring me to Your holy mountain and to the place where You dwell.
