Compare
Mutter vs Abide
We make Mutter, so we're biased. Here's an honest comparison. Mutter is a free iPhone prayer app made by an independent maker. Everything we say about Abide is checked against its own pages and app store listings, dated 1 October 2026, and linked below.
Abide, from Guideposts, is a Christian meditation app with a big audio library: over 2,000 guided meditations and 500+ Bible-based sleep stories, with a free version and Premium. Mutter is a free app built around one habit: before the apps you choose open, it shows the verse or prayer you picked for today. It has no guided meditations or sleep stories.

- Guided meditations. Over 2,000 guided meditations across 50+ topics like anxiety, healing and forgiveness, with a choice of lengths. Mutter doesn't have guided meditations.
- Music and soundscapes. Premium has a full library of relaxing music, study music and soundscapes to pray or rest with. Mutter has soft music to read or listen with, but not a library of it.
- Android, and offline listening. Abide is on Android as well as iPhone and iPad, and Premium lets you download sessions. Mutter is iPhone only.
- Help if money is tight. Abide offers reduced rates on request and one-year scholarships for people who can't afford it.
Where Mutter is different
- A prayer before your apps. App Guard shows today's verse or prayer before the apps you choose. Say Amen and the app opens.
- Completely free, no ads. No Premium, no trial, no ads and no donations. Every reading and everything else in Mutter is free.
- Your own words, drawn. You choose today's verse or prayer, and Mutter draws it in paper and ink and brings it back on your widgets and in reminders.
- Plenty to read. The Bible (BSB, WEB and KJV) with study notes, Spurgeon's devotionals, articles, hymns, historic prayers and Story.
What people say about Abide
Across 150 App Store reviews (mostly 2025–26 from the US, with some older UK ones), people love the sleep stories, the calm narration and having a steady daily rhythm. The complaints cluster around autumn 2025, when the free daily meditation was locked for some people, and around pop-ups asking for donations or upgrades, even for subscribers. Some were charged after a trial; others ask for more new content and for captions.
“The prayers and sleep meditations are calming, thoughtful, and easy to return to.”
“Now 90% is locked behind premium.”
