Mutter vs BibleScroll
We make Mutter, so we're biased. Here's an honest comparison. Mutter is a free iPhone prayer app made by an independent maker. Everything we say about BibleScroll is checked against its own pages and app store listings, dated 1 October 2026, and linked below.
BibleScroll blocks your most distracting apps every day until you've spent time reading the Bible, and it connects to the YouVersion Bible app. Mutter takes a lighter touch: before an app you've chosen opens, it shows today's verse or prayer, and you say Amen.

Where BibleScroll is better
- More time in the Bible. BibleScroll asks you to actually read before the day's scrolling starts, which is more than a single verse. Reviewers say their Instagram time went down and their reading went up.
- Its privacy label says ‘Data Not Collected’. On the App Store, BibleScroll's developer reports collecting no data at all. Mutter needs an account to keep your library.
- It works with YouVersion. If you already read in the YouVersion Bible app, BibleScroll connects to it.
- It's out now, on more devices. It's on the App Store for iPhone and iPad, with a Google Play listing too. Mutter is iPhone only.
- Simple and single-minded. It does one thing, and people who want firm discipline like that.
Where Mutter is different
- Free, with nothing to unlock. BibleScroll needs a subscription after its trial. Mutter is completely free: no subscription, no donations, no ads.
- A prayer, then on with your day. Mutter's pause is short: today's verse or prayer, then Amen. It's there to make the reach for your phone a reminder to pray, not a gate.
- Words you chose. You pick today's verse or prayer, and you see those same words before your apps, on your widgets and in reminders.
- More around it. Drawings of what you save, Spurgeon's devotionals, articles, hymns, historic prayers and Story.
What people say about BibleScroll
Across 202 recent App Store reviews (June to September 2026), most were five stars, and people say it gets them into the Word before anything else. The low ratings are mostly about money: paying before you can try it, a subscription called a ‘donation’, the weekly price and cancelling. Several want more translations, and a few got stuck on the setup screen.
“My IG scroll time is way down and my time in the word is up.”
“Not enough versions of the Bible.”
From BibleScroll's public App Store reviews, read 1 October 2026. Mutter is new, so it doesn't have many reviews yet.
Who should pick which
Pick BibleScroll if you want a firm daily rule of reading before scrolling, you read in YouVersion, and a subscription is fine for you.
Pick Mutter if you'd like a short prayer before your apps rather than a reading session, and want the whole app free. (Once it's on the App Store.)
