Dust. That’s what I was. Then the LORD God breathed the breath of life into my nose, and I was alive. That close. Then he planted a garden in Eden and put me in it.

First one here. Named everything.
Made from the dust of the ground, with God’s own breath in me. I lived in the garden God planted in Eden, and my job was to work it and look after it. I gave every animal its name. Then God made Eve. We ate from the one tree we were told to leave alone, and we had to leave the garden.

One rule. Eat from any tree in the garden you like, except the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. Eat from that one and you’ll die. That was it. Every tree but one.

Named every animal. Every single bird. Not one of them was like me.
Our eyes were opened, all right. First thing we saw: we were naked. Sewed fig leaves together. That evening we heard the LORD God walking in the garden, and we hid in the trees. From God. And he called out, “Where are you?”
Told him I was scared because I was naked, so I hid. He asked if I’d eaten from the tree. And I blamed her. Said the woman he put here with me gave it to me. I said that. To God. About her.
Then the hard words. Thorns and thistles. Sweat for every meal, until I go back to the ground I came from. He said I’m dust, and I’ll go back to dust.
