Eighty. Can’t taste my dinner. Still generous.

From Rogelim in Gilead. I’m eighty and I’ve done well for myself. When King David was at Mahanaim with nothing, we brought him beds, bowls and food.

The king’s people were hungry, exhausted and thirsty in the wilderness. So we brought beds and bowls, wheat, barley, beans, lentils, honey, cheese and sheep.

The king asked me to come and live with him in Jerusalem. I’m eighty. I can’t taste what I eat or hear the singers any more. Let me go home and die in my own town, near my parents’ grave.
