Roman officer stationed in Capernaum, in charge of a hundred soldiers. Not Jewish. I know how orders work: I give them and they’re carried out. So when my servant was lying at home paralysed and in agony, I knew Jesus didn’t need to come to the house.

He told me to go: it’ll happen just as I believed it would. My servant got better that same hour.
My servant was dying. I asked some Jewish elders to fetch Jesus. Then I sent friends to tell him not to bother coming. I'm not good enough to have him in my house. Just say the word. I give orders all day. I know how this works.
