Fifty of us stood watching from a distance at the Jordan. Elijah rolled up his cloak and hit the water, and it parted, left and right. The two of them walked across on dry ground.
We saw him come back across from the Jericho side. Elijah’s spirit is on Elisha now, no question. We went and bowed down to him. Then we talked him into letting fifty strong men go and look for Elijah, in case the Spirit of the LORD had dropped him on some mountain or in some valley. He said don’t. We kept on at him until he was too embarrassed to say no. Three days. Nothing.
Famine at Gilgal. Someone went out for herbs and came back with a cloak full of wild gourds nobody recognised, and chopped them into the stew. First mouthful, people are shouting: man of God, there’s death in the pot! He threw in some flour. Serve it up, he said. And there was nothing wrong with it.
