Elijah’s at the top of Carmel, crouched on the ground with his face between his knees. He keeps sending me to look at the sea. Nothing. Go back. Nothing. Seven times. The seventh time: a cloud as small as a man’s hand, coming up out of the sea.

Went and looked at the sea. Seven times.
I travelled with Elijah in the drought years. On Carmel he sent me to look for rain.

Then he sent me running to Ahab: get your chariot ready and get down the mountain before the rain stops you.
Elijah’s gone right up to the top of Carmel. Crouched down on the ground, face between his knees. He’s sent me to look out towards the sea.
