Here’s water.

I run the whole treasury for Candace, queen of the Ethiopians. I’m a eunuch, as many royal officials are. I travelled all the way to Jerusalem to worship, and I was reading Isaiah on the long ride home when a stranger ran up beside my chariot.

Treasurer to the queen of Ethiopia, on my way home from worshipping in Jerusalem. Reading Isaiah in my chariot, the part about a lamb led to the slaughter. A man runs up alongside and asks if I understand what I’m reading. How could I, with nobody to explain it?

Then we passed some water. “Look, water. What’s stopping me being baptised?” Nothing, as it turned out. He baptised me, and when we came up out of the water he was gone. I went on home full of joy.
