Me? Are you sure?

From the clan of Abiezer in Manasseh, the weakest clan in the tribe, and I'm the youngest in my family. I was threshing wheat in a winepress, hiding it from the Midianites, when the angel of the LORD sat down under my father's oak and called me a mighty warrior. I had questions. I asked for signs. After I pulled down Baal's altar, people started calling me Jerubbaal.

Threshing wheat in a winepress so the Midianites won't see. A stranger under our oak says: “The LORD is with you, mighty warrior.” Me?

Replying to @gideon

Asked him: if the LORD is with us, why has all this happened? My clan is the weakest in Manasseh and I'm the least in my family. He just said he'd be with me.

He touched the food with his staff and fire came up out of the rock. Then he was gone. I've seen the angel of the LORD face to face. I was terrified. The LORD told me not to be afraid. I'm not going to die.

It was me. The LORD told me to pull down Dad's altar to Baal. Took ten of our servants and did it at night. I was too scared of my family and the town to do it in daylight.

Asked God for a sign: wet fleece, dry ground. Got it. Then, sorry, asked for the opposite. Please don't be angry with me. Got that too.

Thirty-two thousand men. The LORD said: too many. Twenty-two thousand who were scared went home. Still too many. Now we're down to three hundred.
