Okay, what. Fingers. A human hand, writing on the plaster wall by the lampstand. The king’s watching it. He’s gone white. His legs have given way and his knees are knocking together.

He’s shouting for the enchanters. Whoever reads it gets purple robes, a gold chain and third place in the kingdom. Literally not one of them can even read it.
He read it. Numbered, weighed, divided. God has numbered the days of the king’s reign and brought it to an end. He’s been weighed on the scales and come up short. And his kingdom goes to the Medes and Persians.

And the king still had them dress him in purple and put the gold chain round his neck. Third in the kingdom. As if it was good news.

Numbered, weighed and divided. All in one night.
