Just got to Susa from Judah. My brother asked how Jerusalem's doing. I told him. The ones who survived the exile are in real trouble back there, and everyone looks down on them. The wall's broken down. The gates have been burned.

One of Nehemiah's brothers. I came to Susa from Judah with some other men, and he asked how Jerusalem was doing. I told him the truth. Later he put me in charge of the city.
