Warned Gedaliah, flat out: the king of the Ammonites has sent Ishmael son of Nethaniah to kill him. He doesn’t believe us.

We went after Ishmael and found him by the big pool at Gibeon. The people he’d taken from Mizpah saw us and came running over. He got away to the Ammonites with eight men.
We’re stopping near Bethlehem on the way to Egypt. After what Ishmael did, we’re afraid of the Babylonians. Jeremiah, pray to the LORD your God for us, the few of us who are left. Ask him which way to go and what to do. Good or bad, we’ll do whatever he says.

You’re lying. The LORD didn’t tell you to say that. Baruch has put you up to it, so we’ll be handed to the Babylonians.
