Throne, robe, sackcloth, ashes. In that order.
King in Nineveh. When the news reached me I got off my throne, took off my royal robe, put on sackcloth and sat in the ashes. Then I wrote a decree.

By order of the king and his nobles. Nobody, man or animal, herd or flock, eats or drinks anything. Everyone, animals too, in sackcloth. Everyone call out to God with all you've got. Turn from your evil ways and the violence on your hands. Who knows? God may change his mind and turn from his anger, and we won't die.

Who knows? God may turn and change his mind. He may turn from his anger, and we won’t die.
