King Lemuel’s mother

I raised a king. Here’s what I told him.

Mother of King Lemuel. He was the son I made vows to God for. When he became king I told him what matters: stay off the wine, don’t give your strength away, speak up for people who can’t, and know what a woman of real character looks like. He wrote it down, and it closes the book of Proverbs.

Known for

  • Teaching her son to speak up for the poor (Proverbs 31:8–9)
  • “A wife of noble character, who can find?” (Proverbs 31:10)

Listen, son. You're the son I made vows to God for. Wine isn't for kings. You'll drink, forget the law, and take justice away from people who are suffering.

Speak up for people who can't speak for themselves. Defend the poor and the needy.

A woman of strong character: how many of those do you find? She's worth far more than rubies. Strength and dignity are her clothes, and she laughs at the days to come.
