Carried out. A lot of blows. Then we took them to the prison, and the jailer’s been told to guard them securely.

I carry the orders.
I serve the magistrates of Philippi. The Greek name for my job means rod-bearer. I carry their orders round the city and see that they’re done.

Roman citizens? Both of you?
Took the message back to the magistrates. Roman citizens, both of them. The magistrates are, uh, alarmed.
The magistrates have come to the prison in person. Apologised. Walked them out themselves. Then asked them, very politely, to please leave the city.
