Three men at my door at night asking me to call up a spirit. You know what Saul does to people like me, I said. Is this a trap?

The king had banned people like me.
A woman at Endor who called up the spirits of the dead. Saul had driven mediums like me out of the land, and killed some. Then one night three men came to my door in disguise. The Bible doesn’t give my name.

What Samuel told him: the LORD has torn the kingdom out of his hands and given it to David. And tomorrow he and his sons will be with Samuel. He fell full length on the floor. He hadn’t eaten all day or all night.

He wouldn’t eat. We talked him round. I killed the calf and baked bread. Then they went out into the night.
