Told my king what the girl from Israel said. He said go, and he’d send a letter to the king of Israel. So I’m on my way with ten talents of silver, six thousand shekels of gold and ten sets of clothes.

Commander of Aram’s army. Washed in the Jordan. Seven times.
Commander of the army of the king of Aram, in Damascus. A great man, a brave soldier, and a man with leprosy. A little girl from Israel told us where to go. I came home clean, with two mule-loads of Israel’s soil.

Turned up at the prophet’s door with all my horses and chariots. He didn’t even come out. Sent a messenger: go and wash seven times in the Jordan. Unbelievable. I thought he’d at least come out, stand there, call on the name of the LORD his God and wave his hand over the spot. Aren’t the rivers of Damascus better than all the water in Israel? Couldn’t I have washed in those?

Went down and dipped myself in the Jordan seven times, like the man of God said. My skin’s like a little boy’s. I’m clean.

Then let me take home as much earth as two mules can carry, because I’ll never sacrifice to any god but the LORD again. Only one thing. When my king goes into the temple of Rimmon, leaning on my arm, and I have to bow down there, may the LORD forgive me for that. He said: go well.
