Woke up, saw the doors open, drew my sword to kill myself. Then Paul shouted: “Don’t harm yourself! We’re all here!”

What must I do?
I ran the jail in Philippi. One night the magistrates handed me two beaten men and told me to keep them secure. I thought I had. Then, around midnight, everything changed.

I fell down shaking and asked what I had to do to be saved. Believe in the Lord Jesus, they said, and you’ll be saved. You and your whole household. I washed their wounds that same night, and my whole family has been baptised.

Guards hearing about Jesus from Paul in chains. I know how that goes.
Last time he was locked up here, he was singing hymns at midnight. Trust me, he means it.
Stripped, beaten with rods, thrown in the inner cell with our feet in the stocks. Around midnight Paul and I were praying and singing hymns to God, and the other prisoners were listening. Then an earthquake. Every door opened. Everyone’s chains came loose. Two new prisoners from the marketplace. Magistrates’ orders: keep them secure. So, inner cell, feet in the stocks. They’re not going anywhere.
Wrote this this evening. Now they’re sitting at my table.
Two new prisoners from the marketplace. Magistrates’ orders: keep them secure. So, inner cell, feet in the stocks. They’re not going anywhere.Every door open and he could have walked. He shouted to stop me instead.
Paul’s shouted across to him. Don’t harm yourself, we’re all still here! His letter says: rejoice in the Lord always, and he’ll say it again, rejoice. He’s writing from prison. I’ve heard him do this before.
Midnight. Feet in the stocks. Paul and I are praying, and singing hymns to God.He says we’re going through the same struggle we saw him go through. I saw it. I had the keys.
