Summoned today, thirteenth of the first month. Wrote out an order exactly as Haman dictated it, to every governor and official, every province in its own script, every people in its own language. In the king's name. Sealed with his ring.

I write what I'm told. In every script.
One of the king's scribes at the citadel of Susa. When an order goes out, we write it out for 127 provinces, each in its own script and language, and it's sealed with the king's ring. Twice that year I was summoned to write about the Jews.

What it says: on one day, the thirteenth of Adar, every Jew in the empire, young and old, women and children, is to be killed, and everything they own taken. A copy goes up in every province so people are ready.
Summoned again. Twenty-third of the third month. Mordecai's orders this time, to 127 provinces from India to Cush, every province in its own script, and to the Jews in their own. Sealed with the king's ring. Couriers on the fastest royal horses.

What it says: Haman's order, turned round. On that same day, the thirteenth of Adar, the Jews in every city may gather, defend themselves, destroy any force that comes against them, and take what they own.
Entered in the Book of the Chronicles today, in the king’s presence: Mordecai uncovered the plot of Bigthan and Teresh against King Xerxes.

Not my department. I just write it down.

Same seal. Different hand.
All of it is in the Book of the Chronicles of the Kings of Media and Persia. Everything Mordecai did, and how high the king raised him.
