On duty with the governor at the grain sales. Ten brothers from Canaan today. They came in and bowed right down in front of him, faces on the floor.

I say it again in the other language.
I translate for the governor of Egypt when foreigners come to buy grain. He speaks Egyptian to them, I say it in their language, and I bring their answers back.

The governor was rough with them. Where are you from? Canaan, here to buy food. Then he says: you’re spies. You’ve come to see where our country’s weak.

He didn’t believe a word. He swore by Pharaoh’s life: you’re not leaving until your youngest brother comes here. Then he had them all locked up.

They were going at each other in their own language. Nothing for me to translate. And the governor turned away from them. I’m fairly sure he was crying.
